Review

The Montreal Canadiens had an unexpected season and playoff run. With all the controversial player movements in the off season, no one knew if they would come together or when they would. With the moving of players like Alexei Kovalev and Saku Koivu many fans thought the team was just going down hill and had no chance. Yet no one even thought of the new players that were acquired; Mike Cammalleri came in from Calgary as one of their top scorers and quickly showed his value as a top goal scorer with a goal in each of their first 4 home games. It was though a poor choice to trade for Scott Gomez who hasn't had the proper output that his contract depicts it should be at. Even though they brought in Brian Gionta to play with him to recapture their old chemistry that led them to a Stanley Cup, they did not make a good choice on the side of the salary cap. The season started out awful for the Canadiens with an injury to Andrei Markov in the first game putting him out for the next 4 months. With this injury the Canadiens failed to cope with this new obstacle, a new playing style should have been made or a trade to replace their star defender. Yet with this lack of judgement they were not able to fix their season until very late in the season. One star emerged of this crazy season, that being the back up goaltender Jaroslav Halak. Who stood on his head for a majority of the season and outplaying Carey Price. Ultimately leading to an outstanding playoff run. With his incredible season the Canadiens were able to knock of the President trophy winners and reigning Stanley Cup champions, yet failing to defeat the mediocre Philadelphia Flyers. In all the Montreal Canadiens had an incredible season and playoffs, able to salvage a crazy off season full of player movement.
